The City of O’Fallon Illinois is most often referred to as the “fastest growing community in Southern Illinois”. There have been and continue to be many reasons for O’Fallon’s consistent growth. Historically, it was the Ohio and Mississippi Railroad Company, now the Baltimore and Ohio, which built a depot and water tank and prompted the founding of O’Fallon. Coal Mines, such as the Tiedemann Mining Company, along with the Willard Stove factory, the Independent Engineering Company and the rich surrounding farm land supported the growth of O’Fallon.
Nearby Scott Air Force Base has been a large factor in O’Fallon’s modern era growth. Along with stimulating local businesses which provide many of its goods and services, it has also been a large provider of jobs in the civilian market. Scott has been a major contributor to the area home building market, one of O’Fallon’s largest industries. O’Fallon’s excellent schools, parks, churches, civic organizations and youth organizations make it the choice of many families who are relocating to the Metro St. Louis area. It is also no surprise why many of the families who have served at Scott choose to retire or return after their tour of duty and make O’Fallon their permanent home.
