The Village of Swansea has a progressive trash and recycling program in place that encourages recycling which benefits both the residents of Swansea and the environment. The residents purchase stickers from City Hall, Schnuck’s,Don’s Hardware and several other places. These stickers go on 33 gallon trash containers that the residents purchase. One sticker per container. Recycling containers are supplied by the Village and it is a free service. The Village will supply residents with a list of the items which can be recycled which includes a good portion of the trash that we dispose of every day.
While this may seem like an odd arrangement it encourages recycling and has kept about 30% of waste out of the landfills. It is especially good for seniors, older couples, or individuals who generally do not produce enough trash for a weekly pickup if they recycle. They only pay for what they use instead of a monthly bill. With this plan everyone wins, the resident, the environment, and the business.
